Meet The Team

Carmen Hetaraka

greg-stuthridgeGreg Stuthridge
Manager Dive Programmes

I consider myself a Technical dive expert who holds many relevant qualifications including those of PADI Master Instructor and SSI Instructor Certifier.  My roles over the years have included being a recreational diving instructor, a tutor for tertiary dive courses, quality assurance and auditing of dive facilities, being a member of various working groups including those involved with the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TROQ) for the dive sector, the drafting of the Dive Adventure Safety Guidelines and the revision of NZQA dive Unit Standards in the domains of general, recreational & instruction.

I am as passionate about diving today as I was over two decades ago when as backpacker I completed an open water diver course in the Bay Islands – Honduras. I am very well travelled and on a personal level this has had a major influence on my attitude to life. I acknowledge how privileged we are to be surrounded by the natural beauty, flora and fauna  and the unique culture which makes Aotearoa our home. I am a firm believer that our programmes can be the positive influence which nourishes individuals to achieve their personal goals and aspirations, just as that open water dive course projected me on the journey to where am today.

I live with my partner of over 30 years an our son in Athenree. I consider that I have a good work life balance which sees me working 4 days in my role as Manager School of Dive for Cornerstone Education in Tauranga and on Fridays I work as an artist creating commissioned metal sculptures which I sell both here and overseas.

My Role here at IKA Training is as Senior Dive Tutor. I have been in the dive industry for the last 15 years with dive Job placements throughout the South Pacific and of course at home in NZ.

I look forward to meeting new students from all sorts of different backgrounds, who come to our facility and progress through the programmes we have to offer.

My goal, is to make a difference no matter how small it is for our community. I also enjoy a diverse range of outdoor activities, “basically if it’s outside, fun and a rush I’m Keen”.

If you have the tooth of a whale, you must have a whales jaw to hold it, one must have the right qualifications for great enterprises.

murray-hillMurray “Muzza” Hill
Auckland Senior Tutor

My name is Murray Hill and my role here is Senior Tutor. I have been diving for over 20 years and have been an Instructor for over 10 years. I have worked in Europe, The Pacific Islands and of course many years in New Zealand.

The sea holds a special place with me and I always feel most comfortable in, on or around it. My favourite types of diving are Wreck Diving and Deep Diving and I also love fishing.

I think its awesome for me to be able to teach others about diving and the underwater environment, and to pass on my knowledge through experiences I’ve enjoyed over the years.

In particular I like that I get to teach the same tertiary courses I completed that started my career in diving over 10 years ago.
